NORTH PARK; Bridgepoint Education SOC 120 Week 3 DQ 1: Death Penalty Advocates from the death penalty recognize that no system is perfect & that applying the death penalty runs a small risk of executing a person who is innocent. Is this a price society should be willing to pay? The death penalty has been declared constitutional since 1976, thousands of people have been placed on death row & 314 of them have been executed. There are thirty-eight states that are now allowing the death penalty. New York has been the last to adapt this legislation last March. Iowa & Massachusetts have been trying to pass a law that would to allow the death penalty to be used in their states. apital punishment has been determined to be for murder & sometimes arson, treason, burglar, & forcible rape of a 14 year old or under from an 18 year old or older, but it varies within ech state. There are many politicians who are trying to get laws passed banning the death pealty. There is now an estimated 3000 people on death row across the country & if those politicians get their way, those 3000 prisoner’s lives will be spared. The rage of this problem coninues to persist with many people questioning if capital punishment is really the answer t solving the problem of crimes. The death penalty should be allowed because it is not inhuman but rather fair & if it is continued to be used it will end up helping our society in many ways Many people who oppose the death penalty say it is inhumane & unfair. These peoplewho oppose it says that all human life has the right to end up being respected. Mosser, K. (2010). Introduction to Ethics & Social Responsibility. NORTH PARK; Bridgepoin Education, Inc.
