SUMMARY In the story “Social class and the hidden curriculum if work” by Jean Anyon, she tried to examine how education work in different type of social classes. She does this by observing several different classrooms according to how much their parent earns. She labels them as “working class,” “middle class,” “affluent professional,” and “executive elite.” For the working class, the average income is $31.244, in their classroom, children often being forced to obey the rules; they have to follow teachers’ instruction and do not allow to do the solve the problems by their way and always have the busy works. Secondly, the middle class which average income is about $127.184, has more "active" classroom than the working class. The children were taught to memorize from the book; they can share their ideas with teachers, but in the end, the only way to solve the problems must be from the books. In contrast, the affluent professional class, which parent’s average income is $27.342.212, getting a lot of creativity in their classroom, their lessons are more practical, and they taught to have divergent thinking. And lastly but also the best education that children can have which is in the executive elite class. Children in this classroom get to analyze things more specific; they got a chance to make up their test questions, and they mostly got to think divergent. After her observation, Jean said that "the "hidden curriculum" of schoolwork is tactic preparation for relating to the process of production in a particular way." In the end, she states that "These differences may not only contribute to the development in the children in each social class of certain types of economically significant relationships and not others but would thereby help to reproduce this system of relations in society." Which could be explained as if this class's education system continues, it will keep the cycle going as the rich will be rich and the middle and working class will be the same....
