discussion on social class and its effects on society...

Description

Sociology Discussion Communities that have a low-status consistency tend to have a low social stratification. Social stratifications refer to a society’s categorization of its people into rankings of socioeconomic tiers based on factors such as wealth. These communities will be made up of people who have low incomes, not much education, and no wealth. These communities are often found among the minorities as well. One positive thing about being from a low-status community is that you are not necessarily stuck here. Many very successful people have worked their way from poverty to wealth. This is called social mobility. A great example of this is actor Tyler Perry. He grew up in a low-income household with an abusive father. He worked hard and is now one of the most famous and profitable actors in the United States. He didn’t let his class traits define him instead he denied them and came out on top. However, there are plenty of people who don’t get a certain job because of their class, or they don’t get to further their education because they do not have the money. This is probably the most negative ramification of low-status consistency because even though you desire more out of life, you simply cannot take the necessary risks due to financial issues. Some cultures (Hindu) such as those practiced in India believe in the caste system which permanently binds a person into the social standing that they were born into. This means that no matter the education, the hard work or effort that an individual’s puts forth, they will always remain in the same class as their ancestors....
