Description

“De Nadie” Documentary The documentary, “De Nadie”, is a very emotional piece that follows the stories of several immigrants in their quest to the United States. Each of the refugees being followed had one thing in common, they were all in search for a better life. I would rate this film five out of five stars for its extreme realistic look into even the worst parts of immigration, and also for how educational and eye opening it was. The most moving segments in my opinion were the ones regarding Maria. As a woman, I cannot even imagine going through the hardships that she encountered in her journey. She was migrating to the United States, not only in the search of her own prosperity, but also to provide for her children and ill husband. She seemed determined at first, but so many obstacles began to get in her way. Maria, and other in the documentary spoke on the trains and how dangerous they are. One of the younger people interviewed was a young boy who was hurt very badly on the train and lost an arm. Maria showed her dislike to this form of migrating and said she did not want to travel this way. In the end, Maria’s story brought me to tears. She was raped and felt that she could no longer return home and be the same women to her family that she once was. I feel a new sense of appreciation for the way in which I reside in the United States. To witness the struggle that the film participants underwent just to obtain their citizenship showed me how sacred citizenship in our free country could be. We have such better resources in education, the economy, and housing, just to name a few, and there are so many individuals in the world yearning for such a life that we are taking for granted. Post watching the movie I also became more frustrated with the new reforms the president is trying to impose on immigrants. For someone to be willing to undergo such extreme circumstances to enter the United States, they deserve the warmest welcome....
