Description

Balintawak, a place of Revolution and a venue of controversy. It was all started when the great Magellan began his routes in search of the Spice Islands back in 1519. Out of nowhere, he then discovered a place that once called the “Pearl of the East”, the Philippines. Fast forward to the time when all that problems began, that discovery lead to over 300 years of Spanish occupation. Craving for freedom and seeking for independence, the heroes of the east or the Filipino revolutionaries under the leadership of Andres Bonifacio lifted up and tore their cedulas as a sign of attempt to stop the Spanish Regime. Where and when did it happened remains a controversy and left unaided. But I personally believe in accordance to my research, that the First Cry happened in Balintawak written by the Katipunan General Guillermo Masangkay. Unlike other versions of the First Cry, it represents more broad, definite, and convincing ideas that we should consider in knowing the real dates and place of the cry. It is broad because it constitutes an expansive range in a way that it is comprehensive. It is definite because it is not vague and doubtful, not similar to what Pio Valenzuela held to his account. Pio Valenzuela’s version, like the constitution, it also revolutionized. He first said that the Cry happened in Balintawak on Wednesday of August 26, 1896. Corollary to what he said, when he became older and when his memory became dull and washed out, he modified his account and said that it happened in Pugad Lawin on August 23, 1896. Lastly, convincing. It is something to believe in to because Guillermo’s account and his personal background is convincing. He’s an eyewitness as well as a good friend of Andres Bonifacio, it may be not that considerable to be a factor but, that fact that He was a childhood colleague of the leader himself was a convenient idea. Ladies and gentlemen, for me it doesn’t matter what’s the real date and place of where and when the cry happened. Let those experts debate for it. What matters is what meaning we want to assign to such a revolutionary event and heroic event....
