Description

Cultural Presentations Student Guidelines SPN 111 Description: Each student will work in a group to prepare a cultural presentation. The presentation should reflect a collaborative effort and put forth new information about one of the countries studied this semester. Use PowerPoint or a similar program for the in-class presentation. Time Limit: No more than 12-15 minutes (i.e., 2 to 3 minutes max for each student). The number of students per group/country will be determined by the instructor. Class Comprehension: Each group will prepare 5 questions (true-false, multiple choice or short answer) and distribute copies to all students in the class. Topics: To orient the project, the instructor will offer each group a list of topics with related resources. The group may select a topic on the list or suggest another provided it is related to the country of study and approved by the instructor. Objective: The presentations will give students the opportunity to explore a country (or region) in greater depth. In addition, they are a means for strengthening linguistic skills. As such, the research, preparation and presentation are to be done in Spanish. Approach: Students should prepare presentation according to their linguistic knowledge. If they want to express an idea and have not yet studied the appropriate structure, they may consult the instructor. Class Presentation: Each student is responsible for presenting one aspect of the overall topic. To organize the presentation, the group must create a slide for each person. This slide should include visual materials and/or bullet points with key information. You are asked NOT to include much text on the slide. Slides with extensive text distract from the presentation, which is meant to be done in an “oral” or “spoken” format. Evaluation: The presentation grade will count towards 4% of the final course grade. The grade is based on the quality of research and the presentation of materials. As such, it is important that you work collectively to ensure the fluidity of the content and visual aids (i.e., PowerPoint). Each group is to make only one collective PowerPoint. Individual Power Point. presentations are NOT allowed....
