After reading pages 41-46 in Chapter 2 you learned about adopting a creator or a victim mindset and the impact they both can have on your life. In this activity, you will experiment with the creator role. By choosing to take responsibility for your life, you will immediately gain an increased power to achieve your greatest potential. 1. What is a creator mindset?

The creator mindset refers to the ability to see a situation for what it is, with all of it possible opportunities and paths, and decide which path is best for you based on what you wish to achieve in life. 2. Write and complete each of the five sentence stems below. For example, someone might

complete the first sentence stem as follows: If I take personal responsibility for my education, I will focus on really learning and not just getting good grades. 1. If I take personal responsibility for my education… I will ensure that I am making it a

top priority in my life and making sure to devote enough time and effort into learning and understanding the material and preparing myself for exams. 2. If I take personal responsibility for my career… I will ensure that setbacks or

distractions along my path towards achieving my desired career do not dissuade me from obtaining my goals. 3. If I take personal responsibility for my relationships… I will make the effort to listen

and understand from the other person's perspective in order to better communicate and work to strengthen the relationship. 4. If I take personal responsibility for my health…I will purpose to not allow the stresses

and time constraints of every day life to allow me to settle for a lifestyle that is not conducive to being healthy. 5. If I take personal responsibility for all that happens to me…I will not shift the blame

What have you learned or relearned in this journa l about personal responsibility? How you will use this knowledge to improve your outcomes and experiences in college…and beyond? If you are aware that accepting personal responsibility conflicts with your own cultural or personal beliefs, explore how you will deal with that difference. You might begin, By reading and writing about personal responsibility, I have learned…. By gathering a better understanding of personal responsibility through this journal, I now have clear picture of what it takes to take control of my own life and not put the results of what occurs in anyone else's lap besides my own. I have come to understand that no one is going to care about my life more than I will and that if I want to make a change or achieve a certain goal, no one is going to make it happen for me but me. I cannot expect to not put in the time and effort and achieve a goal that I want. I also cant shift the blame of not achieving the desired outcome or goal to someone else as it is my responsibility to make it happen. In class and in college, I will take the personal responsibility for my own grades and marks by getting my work done on time and not waiting until the last minute to study.

4. How will you adopt a creator mindset? (Be specific in your reply – what action steps will you

take to be a creator? Dive Deep)! In my life, I will adapt the creator mindset in my academics by constantly staying on top of all of my assignments and grades and ensuring that anything I am not clear on, I seek out the help so that I may obtain the highest possible grades and outcome in each of my classes. In this way, step by step, I look to earn my way into a medical school program and eventually a surgical residency program later on in life. I realize each big goal one wants to accomplish usually has many smaller goals that must be completed first and by adapting the creator mindset, I will work to tackling each of those goals in my life....
