First Interview 1. How old is the individual being interviewed? 56 2. What are you assessing (Erikson or Piaget)? Erikson 3. How did you assess? What is the most satisfying thing in his/her life? Who are the important people in his/her life? Is he/she active in community affairs? 4. What stage best matches the individual’s current developmental level? Integrity vs. Despair. 5. Why did you come to the conclusion based on the questions asked and the responses given that this individual belongs in this stage? Based on the answers to the questions that I asked of him, I believe he is in the last stage of Erikson’s theory. It was interesting to me that the answers to the first two questions were about the same. The most satisfying thing in his life was seeing his children’s unquenchable thirst for knowledge. He remembers back in college that all he was looking for was the degree at the end and didn’t have much of the desire to learn. To be able to see his kids apply themselves and truly have a passion for what they are doing is the most satisfying thing in his life. Along those same lines, his family and close friends are the most important people in his life. Most of these friends come from the next question. He is actively involved with church and the community impacted by this church. According to Erikson, to pass through the generativity vs. stagnation stage, it means to pay it forward and give back to the younger generation through his children. The answers to the first 2 questions lead me to believe that he has completed this task and now his children are ready to take on the world! This is why I believe he has moved on to the last stage of Erikson’s theory.

Second Interview 1. How old is the individual being interviewed? 20 2. What are you assessing (Erikson or Piaget)? Erikson 3. How did you assess? Does he/she live at home with his/her parents? Is he/she employed or in school? Is he/she in a relationship? Are you involved on Campus or in work activities?

4. What stage best matches the individual’s current developmental level? Intimacy vs. Isolation 5. Why did you come to the conclusion based on the questions asked and the responses given that this individual belongs in this stage? The answers were a clear representation of the developmental level at which she was in. At this point, she is in college, living with her parents, and just starting to look for a relationship. This is already her second year of classes, and she is living with her parents, so she won’t have to pay as much for housing and meals. Because she is living at home, she has less interaction with the other students in class. This has been difficult for her to adjust and find others to hang out with. She has just about finished up with a specific class for her major and believes that there is a group of people that will end up being great friends through the rest of college! To pass through this stage, there is more of a sense of independence and the idea that she will be able to make it on her own. I believe, from what she has said, there are still some things she is working through. It sounds like she is beginning to find who she is and what she wants to do with her life. At this point she still lives with her parents for the sake of money, but independence is started. She has the desire to make friends and be involved and is slowly building the confidence to act. I believe she is in this development level because she is still figuring things out. From my experience going through college, I was like this around that time as well. It is a stage that she has to go through in order to find meaning and independence in her life.

Third Interview 1. How old is the individual being interviewed? 29 2. What are you assessing (Erikson or Piaget)? Erikson 3. How did you assess? Does he/she live at home with his/her parents? Is he/she employed or in school? Is he/she in a relationship? Do you have any Kids?

4. What stage best matches the individual’s current developmental level? Generativity vs. Stagnation 5. Why did you come to the conclusion based on the questions asked and the responses given that this individual belongs in this stage? This one was a little less clear cut than the last two interview. Based on his age, he is right around the threshold between Generativity vs. Stagnation and Intimacy vs. Isolation. I attempted to focus the questions around both of these stages, in particular the latter in order to see if he had gotten through it. He has graduated from an undergraduate program, has a stable Job, and is now pursuing his master’s degree. He is married, and his wife is currently pregnant. He has not been in his career very long, and they are about to move across town in order to be closer to his wife’s work. To pass through Intimacy vs. Isolation, independence from parents, companionship, and permanence are all factors. He lives out of his parents house, he is married with a child on the way, and is about to move into a house for a permanent living arrangement. His career is also beginning. With all of this being done, to me, I believe he has reached the threshold and has moved into Generativity vs. Stagnation. With a kid on the way, he is now able to focus on child rearing and finding success through them and his career!
