STRUCTURE OF AN ARGUMENT ANALYSIS ESSAY: INTRODUCTION: Form – in which format has the text been written? for example, news article, speech or blog. Context – background info on the issue, sets the scene. (Writer, title, form) Contention – what is the authors argument? what do they want to change? Why? What is it like now and what do they want it to become? Should be one sentence, no more than 3 lines. For example, *authors name* contents that... Tone – what does the text sound like? does the tone shift as the text progresses? Audience – who is the author targeting their text to? who may be reading it? think about why it was written and who it was written for. Visual Image – brief description of images included, do not deeply analyse, just mention them. Date – when was the article written? how does this affect the authors viewpoint? Author – who wrote the text? always refer to them by their full name or their last name. Title – include the title of the article when introducing it. Issue – what is being discussed?
