Yarber, Sayad, & Strong. (2016). Human Sexuality: Diversity in Contemporary America. New York, NY: McGraw-Hill. Must be 9th Edition (pictured). May be textbook or e-book.

Compass 2g: Access our course page at www.compass2g.illinois.edu COURSE DESCRIPTION This course presents a broad perspective on a variety of human sexuality topics. Content areas include sexuality through the lifespan, sexual health, reproduction and contraception, variations in sexual behavior and gender roles. Sensitive issues regarding sexuality will be discussed in depth, and it is expected that students will show respect for a diverse range of opinions. COURSE OBJECTIVES The main objective of this course is to provide a new understanding of key issues in human sexuality that will positively impact you for the rest of your life. Upon completion of this course you will be able to: 1. Demonstrate knowledge of the physiological, psychological and social aspects of human sexuality; 2. Demonstrate the ability to apply critical thinking to a range of sexuality issues; 3. Be able to apply principles in the study of sexuality to personal and professional topics. CLASS EXPECTATIONS 

Arrive at class on time. Preparation All readings and weekly assignments should be completed prior to class (see page 7). Class participation and professional class conduct are required o Cell Phones should be turned off o No text messaging o No laptop computers or similar devices o Headphones should be out of ears/put away before class begins o No newspapers, books, MP3 players, etc. o No private conversations GENERAL COURSE INFORMATION

To maintain privacy of students and guest speakers, all forms of electronics are prohibited from use during class. Any student found violating these standards of respect and privacy will be dismissed from lecture and will forfeit all points for that day. The instructor will monitor emails from 8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday. Emails will generally be answered within 48 hours, if not sooner. If you do not receive a response within 48 hours, please send a reminder. Your emails and questions are important, and I will always try to answer in a timely manner, but may not respond o Respect: This class discusses many topics of a sensitive nature; therefore, maturity and respect are mandatory for all students. If you are unable to participate in this environment in a respectful manner, you will be asked to leave and risk losing in-class points for that day.

Students who violate academic integrity will receive a “0” on that exam, quiz or assignment and may receive a failing grade in the course. Working in groups without permission, copying or paraphrasing a friend’s assignment, and plagiarism are all forms of cheating that will not be tolerated. Plagiarism is writing or paraphrasing that is lifted from another source but presented as one’s own: either ideas or actual text. Any cheating incident will be reported to higher university administrators with possibly more severe penalties, including suspension or expulsion, imposed.
