Description

Study materials for modules Study materials are the resources provided to you by The Open University (OU) to complete your studies.

Finding out what materials are part of your module Before your module starts you can check what materials are included in the module details on the main OU website (prospectus). This may also include a list of set books you might need to buy yourself.

After you’ve enrolled on a module you’ll see the Module details in StudentHome. These details will outline all of the materials you’ll need and how you’ll get them.

About two weeks before the module starts you’ll get access to your module website. If you look in the Resources section you’ll also see a list of materials there. All of this will be available to download as you work your way through the module.

Study materials from the OU Your study materials could be printed text books, CDs and DVDs or they could be the audio, video, online activities and electronic documents that you’ll find available to download in your module website.

Printed study materials Your printed materials are delivered by courier to the address you gave us when you registered. You’ll be able to track your materials and check the delivery date in the module section of StudentHome. You’ll also receive an email to confirm the delivery date.

The study materials that you receive in the post are yours to keep so you can highlight or mark them however you wish. You don’t have to give them back even if you stop studying before the end of the module.

If you need the materials sent to an alternative delivery address, you can add this in StudentHome or request this via the Distribution Helpdesk. Please note: we cannot deliver to a PO Box address.

If you need urgent help to access or replace materials that are broken, lost or missing please contact the Distribution Helpdesk.

Online study materials and alternative formats It’s important to check what’s available before you enrol. Look for the section ‘If you have a disability’ in the module details on the main OU website (prospectus) to find out what the standard formats are and if any alternative formats are available.

You can access online study materials in the Resources area of your module website. If you click on the Downloads icon you’ll see all the online resources available, these can include PDF and Word documents, ebooks, Kindle and audio and video resources. If you need help or advice about downloading these resources click on Help at the top of the screen.

Accessing materials after finishing studying. You'll have read-only access to your module website for three years after you’ve finished studying the module and can check this in your Study Record area in StudentHome.

Other materials to help your study For some modules there may be a requirement for you to buy additional books and these will be detailed on your module website. You can find stockists using The Booksellers Association.

If you have difficulty obtaining a set book please email [email protected].

Print on Demand Print on Demand allows you to purchase printed copies of selected online module content from a third party supplier. It’s not available for all modules. If Print on Demand is available for any of your online module materials there’ll be a link through to the Print on Demand service on the Resources page on your module website.
