PSY 102 — Psychology in the Modern World

Subject Pool Paper Assignment The purpose of each Subject Pool paper is to serve as an alternative to 1 unit of the 3-unit subject pool participation requirement. For example, if you have already participated in a 1-hour study, you can complete two paper assignments to fulfill the 3-unit requirement. Note: You are exempt from the paper assignment if (1) you have participated in a single study that required 3 or more hours of participation or (2) you have participated in several studies that totaled 3 or more hours of participation. The paper assignment is also an opportunity for you to familiarize yourself with the research literature. Below are is a folder with links to seven PDF files. You can choose the research that interests you. For each Subject Pool paper that you write, please answer each of the following four questions. Remember: Each paper is worth 1 unit. These four questions apply to each of the 3 Subject Pool papers that you may write. Each paper should consist of 4 paragraphs, each paragraph corresponding to the numbers below. Each paper should not exceed 2 pages.

1. Describe the purpose of the research. Why was it of interest to the experimenters? 2. What was done in this experiment? Was this a correlational or an experimental study? Was there a control group? 3. What were the results? 4. Describe the implications of these results. How does this relate to other aspects of psychology?    

Due Wednesday, January 23rd by 5:00 pm on Blackboard. Late papers will not be accepted. The entire paper must be in your own words, in essay format & type written (double spaced) using Microsoft Word. Quoted sentences are not allowed. Do not use external references outside of lecture notes and the textbook....
