Global E-Business and Collaboration Muhammad Aziz Putra Akbar - 18/425436/EK/21822 Business process is a combination of different actions needed to make a business runs well. This includes a set of organizing, coordinating, and focusing on productivity. In order to achieve the business’ goals, workers are divided into some functional area (manufacturing and production, financing and accounting, sales and marketing, human resources). Each of the functional area produces own-related information, this means that numerous kinds of information are generated. It is very important for the company to have a platform where all information are collected, processed, and stored. This is what we call by the information system. (LO 1) Information systems can also help to ease decision making. Decision making are needed in all different stage of management (operational management, middle management, senior management). But, particular systems are designated to particular management groups in order to suit the needs. Types of systems: 1. Transaction Processing Systems (TPS) for the operational Management. Used to track the flow of daily transaction routines. 2. Business Intelligence Systems allows management to make decisions, monitor, control and administer activities. Management Information Systems (MIS) for middle management. Shows a recap of the companies operations from the TPS. Decision-Support Systems (DSS) May include information externally, yet a mixture of MIS and TPS. It gives information about something that may happen in the future based on the trend of unique and rapid changes. 3. Executive Support Systems (ESS) for Senior management. Includes a summary of MIS and DSS. Include also external information about global events, changes in policy, etc. Enterprise Applications are used to ease business processes. The big four applications are: 1. Enterprise Systems or Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP) systems, integrates the four functional areas to have store all information in one source. 2. Supply Chain Management Systems (SCMS) help to conduct a clear communication with the supplier where needed supplies, purchase, date of deliveries, etc. can be given in one platform. 3. Customer Relationship Management Systems (CRMS) is utilized to keep a good relationship with the customer. This deals with sales, marketing, etc. 4. Knowledge Management Systems (KMS) store knowledge and skill sets of how to create better products or services. Nowadays, technologies has change the way of a business relate with other people. Ebusiness are used to conduct major business processes, eg. communicating with suppliers and vendors. E-Commerce is part of the e-business in which there are buying & selling transactions conducted. E-government bridges the relationship between government / public sector agencies with businesses. These are being done over the internet. (LO 2) Collaboration is a joint-work between people to achieve common goals. It becomes more important nowadays because of several factors: - Changing of nature work (eg. from manufacturing to pre-computer office work) - Growth of professional work - Changing organization of the firm - Changing scope of the firm - Emphasis on innovation - Changing culture of work and business Nowadays, with the new era of technology, people get easier to make a conversation with one another using ‘social media’. However, social media is not only allowing people to interact casually, but also for business to conduct collaboration. There are many benefits of collaboration and social businesses: ● Increase productivity ● Reduce time delays and increase the quality of products and services. ● Raises ideas to create new innovation ● Solve complaints to increase customer services ● Control financial performance Tools that are used for social businesses include email, instant messaging, wikis, virtual words (eg. Cisco), cloud collaboration services (Google drives, etc.), virtual meetings systems (telepresence such as google hangouts), etc. In order for managers choosing the right tool, they need to examine the profile, ways of content sharing, notifications, workspaces, tagging and bookmarking, permissions / privacy of the tools. (LO 3) Information Systems Department is the formal unit that is responsible for the IT of the company. Programmers, system analysts, and information system managers are the one who take the posts in the department. Usually the department is headed by the Chief Information Officer (CIO). Meanwhile the security of the information are managed by the Chief Security Officer (CSO). (LO 4)
