93 murders in 19 states from 1970-2005 Ages of the victims 20s to 50s Victims were African-American, White, Bi-racial, Hispanic All female, but one transgender Most were prostitutes, runaways, addicts, living in poverty, some with developmental disabilities; avoided "people who would be immediately missed" Married once; 2 long-term girlfriends Believed he was commissioned by God to kill his victims to alleviate their misery Same procedure: lure with money or drugs, strangle them, used blunt force trauma, bodies found naked from the waist down; "kissed her, then asked: What would happen if I strangled you? Answer: Not much I could do? Became known as the “Choke and Stroke killer”

In the Beginning: – Born June 7, 1940 in Reynolds, Georgia – 16-year-old mother (African-American) prostitute, 19-year-old father (White) – Abandoned by mother and raised by paternal grandmother in Lorain, Ohio Early Years: – 1945: First sexual fantasy involving the neck – 1947: First time had urge to choke someone – 1954: Stole a bicycle sent to reform school; 47 disciplinary infractions – 1956: Arrested in Omaha, Nebraska for burglary; sent to juvenile detention – 1957: B & E in Lorain, Ohio sent to juvenile detention; drops out of high school Timeline: – 1956: Arrested for beating a woman in Ohio; charged with assault and battery; moves to Florida, becomes a cemetery attendant – 1970: New Year’s Eve First murder victim 33-year-old Mary Brosley, Miami, Florida; she was white; “It was a sign from God”; found 23 days later but not identified until 2017 – 1971: Charged with armed robbery I Cleveland, Ohio; also charged with sodomy; charges dropped – 1972: 18-year-old transgender woman, Mary Ann or Marianne; Miami, Florida. Meets Orelia Jean Dorsey in Cleveland Jail; she I 30 years older than him – 1974: Killed 34-year-old Martha Cunningham, Black woman; Knoxville, Tennessee

– 1976: Grand Larceny and resisting arrest Date County; Florida, drew mural; already been jailed 34 times by this point for theft, assault, attempted rape, fraud, attacks on gov’t officials; Got 3 months for rape with an electrical cord – 1977: 22-year-old Mary Ann Jenkins; Black woman; Illinois – 1981: Annie-Lee Stewart, Cincinnati, Ohio – 1981: Beat and choked a sex worker named Leila; blood streaming from her eyes – 1982: Charged with shoplifting in Mississippi, matched description and arrested and charged with murder of 22-year-old Melinda Rose LaPree; no conviction; transferred to Florida and tried for murder of Patricia Mount; no conviction – 1982: Picks up accomplice 19-year-old Danny Beckless in Little Rock, Arkansas; “snaked the Gulf Coast”- Mississippi, Alabama, Florida – 1984: Arrested for kidnapping, beating, strangling of 22-year-old Laurie Barros; San Diego, California; Next month found with unconscious woman in back seat in same location as Barros; served 2.5 years for both crimes – 1987: released and commits another murder in July, followed by 9 others – 1988: Jean Doresy dies of brain hemorrhage; moves to Los Angeles; commits 10 more murders; including Carol Ilene Elford – 1994: Texan Denise Brothers goes missing – 1996: Arrested for strangling Melissa Thomas – 2005: Last victim, travelling together in an RV, killed her and dumped her; continued petty crimes – 2007: Cocaine conviction – 2012: Arrested at a homeless shelter in Louisville, Kentucky and extradited to California to face a narcotics charge: obtained DNA- links to 1987 murder of Elford – 2014: Sentenced to 3 life terms for murders of 3 women from California; Claimed he was innocent – 2018: Extradited to Texas; death penalty is waived; Ranger James Holland gets him to confess to over 90 murders including Denise Brothers The Confessions – 650 hours with James Holland – First confessed to the 1994 murder of Denise Brothers – Told all his victims he loved them – He compared the killing to sex "long and slow as possible, they would black out and come to multiple times until they died...wanted to BLEEP their helplessness and have them cry in my arms" – Holland called him "wicked smart" because he had a photographic memory – he knew where he was; could describe landmarks; remembered the car he was driving at the time • "nothing he said was wrong" – Solved 50 cases

– Holland said Little's crimes were his "greatest accomplishment" – His drawings allowed him to relive his crimes over and over • His victims were "sub-human" - "big game hunting for the thrill Quotes – “All I know is I lost control. And I always was very cautious to keep from getting busted. I didn’t pick on motherBLEEP that would be missed….There weren’t no women nurses and teachers. That’s the reason I didn’t get busted a long time ago” – “When they die, they’re all your favourites. They all belong to you” – “I put my hand around her neck and that was it. She evidently wanted this to happen you know” (first killing) – “She was fighting for her life, and I'm fighting for my pleasure…” – “I wanted more. I asked the good Lord, why me?” – “A little skinny black girl. Real friendly. She was laughing while I was killing her” – “They was broke and homeless and they walked right into my spider web” – “I don't think there was another person that did what I liked to do. I think I'm the only one in the world. That's not an honour. That's a curse”’ – “Sam killed me but I love him.' He writes notes on some of the drawings” – “Probably be numerous people who are—been convicted and sent to penitentiary on my behalf. I say, 'If I can help get somebody out of jail, you know, God might smile a little bit more on me” – “I live in my mind now. With my babies [victims]. In my drawings” – “Well, God put me here to do this” – “I got so crazy. I wanted more” – “women who Little believed had only been waiting for him to show up and finish the job. he imagined himself as some sort of angel of mercy, divinely commissioned to euthanize(...) other times, he told me, he believed he was the devil”...
