I am writing to apply for the Band 5 Radiographer position at the Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. I have read the person’s specification and job description and I met the specified requirements stated in the job vacancy advert. I am an HCPC Registered Diagnostic Radiographer (Reg No: RA085702) include my desire to join in providing quality healthcare services through high quality radiography service, using professional judgment, skills and my experience in the delivery of diagnostic radiography with strict adherence to standards of professional conduct. I also know that working in your reputable hospital will give me the opportunity to display the knowledge and skills I have obtained both in school and in the different places I have had the opportunity to work. I desire to contribute to the achievement of your organization’s corporate mission and values, while I improve myself through various continuous professional development programs. I consider myself a compassionate individual who is responsible, respectful and always striving for excellence. I consistently look for ways to improve the quality of care I offer to my patients, whilst focusing on their best interest and outcomes at all times. In the past year, I have assisted in teaching and training Student Radiographers on clinical postings as well as new Radiography graduates on Compulsory Professional Development (CPD) programs organized by the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN) where I lectured on the topic of Patient Management In Computed Tomography as well as Physical principles of Computed Tomography and collaborate with their Supervisors to ensure that the objectives of the course is met. Occupational experience and abilities I have gained 3 years of experience working in General Radiography, Accident and Emergency, mobiles, fluoroscopy and theatre for guiding surgical interventions. I have also performed a number of x-rays on pediatrics at the request of pediatricians bearing in mind the special radiation protection needs of this group of patients. I have proficiency in conventional and cross-sectional imaging of body parts such as the brain, spines, abdomen etc and can perform special examinations such as HSG, IVU, MCUG, CT Urography, CT angiography studies (Peripheral, carotid, coronary, cerebral, and CT pulmonary angiography) amongst others. I have worked/currently work with different imaging modalities including CT (Siemens 16-Slices, GE Lightspeed VCT 64-Slices & Toshiba Aquillon 32 slices), ceiling/floor mounted and mobile X-ray machines, Computed and Digital Radiography systems. I also train interns and student radiographers in these areas. I am passionate about professional growth. I have a Post Graduate Certificate in Computed Tomography with the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria (RRBN), an ongoing Post graduate diploma in Medical Ultrasound with the same Board and I am also willing to ensure delivery of quality health care to both internal and external stakeholders through more continuous improvement activities. I am competent in Intravenous cannulation. I secure IV access occasionally and administer contrast agents for patients requiring contrast media during their investigations, whilst being aware of the side effects of contrast media and maintaining the ability to provide first hand care when those complications arise. Though I do not have the requisite UK certification in IV cannulation, I am willing to undertake further training leading to the award of such certificate if offered the job.

I am aware of and comply with the ionizing radiation medical exposure (IRMER 2017) and ionizing radiation regulations (IRR 1999), hence I holistically justify any radiographic examination and ensure that radiation doses are as low as reasonably achievable. I understand that my duty of care is to my patients; hence I have good communication skills and the ability to pass information clearly. This feature has improved my interpersonal relationship with colleagues and also kept patients at ease. I understand the need for team work. Hence, I always strive to give my best when working in a team especially with multidisciplinary health professionals. I ensure a professional approach in my practice; satisfactory customer care standards and I always ensure to have an attitude that portrays the good image of my department. I am self-motivated and have the ability to use my initiative to exercise professional judgment when making clinically related decisions (even amongst colleagues). I am flexible and adaptable; hence I’m willing to undertake duties both within and out of hours including other sites. My motivation at work comes from patient satisfaction which makes me seek knowledge and pursue excellence. I have a high standard of practical expertise in convectional and digital radiography. Ability to modify with ease, precision and speed, the radiographic techniques when necessary in order fit in patient’s conditions and also bearing in mind the protocols and the conventional radiographic imaging techniques. I am experienced in film appraisals, film critique and pattern recognition including localization of basic pathogenic features and how to modify radiographic techniques to suite the patient’s conditions and examination requirements. Have a flexible attitude towards different ways of working in relation to skill mix and hours of work. Participates in the extended day, 7day week and emergency duty (on-call) rotas as required. I participate in the operational management of the department in conjunction with the Head of Department and other Senior Radiographers. Understand the vetting and protocolling of requests, and know when to seek Radiologist advice and/ or intervention. Experienced with the operation of the pressure injector. Maintaining competency in sterile techniques as required when undertaking interventional procedures i.e. biopsy / aspiration / drainage. Communicates complex information effectively to a wide range of stakeholders including patients and their families or carers, providing them with accurate information. Where information of a sensitive nature is to be given to a patient, compassion, empathy and forethought are put into consideration I possess the necessary skills to cope with claustrophobic, anxious or aggressive patients. Show tact and diplomacy when dealing with high-risk patients. Ensuring all patients are treated with respect and

dignity, using a calm empathetic manner in frequently distressing situations, particularly when dealing with terminally ill patients. Confidentiality: All information, both written and computer based, relating to my patients’ diagnosis and treatment, and the personal details of staff and patients, will be strictly confidential in reference to the Data Protection Act 1998 and the ‘right to privacy’ under the Human Rights Act 1998. Clinical Governance: 1. I Ensure all aspects of the clinical governance framework are recognized and taken into consideration when decision making 2. I Promote and support the implementation of departmental, Trust and National policies and procedures. 3. I'm responsible for the Health and Safety of patients in the department with particular regard to Radiation and Magnet safety and Infection Control by ensuring compliance with the Ionizing Radiation Regulations IR(ME)R2000, local rules and ensuring all examinations are justified in accordance with local protocols. Assisting in the investigation of incidents where necessary. 4. I observe the of Codes of Practice, Health & Safety Regulations, COSHH, Radiation Regulations, Confidentiality of patient records including The Date Protection Act. HCPC Standards of conduct, Performance and Ethics (2003), and other Trust Policies. Documenting and reporting incidents, clinical or otherwise, which occur within the Trust to the head of Department, as well as completing an online incident form.
