Lectures focus on theories and applications, including problem solving. Students will learn the fundamentals and acquire analytical tools necessary for sound corporate financial analysis and decision-making. Finance major students who complete the course will have the foundation with which to move on to more advanced courses and to real world problems. On balance, this course build upon the students’ knowledge base and strengthen the students’ analytical and quantitative skills. Students are expected to do a considerable amount of readings. Our learning process emphasizes problem solving, homework assignments via Connect, and a term project, which requires a strict adherence to a time line and provides grading for each assignment and for the entire semester. Some discussions in lecture involve mathematical proof and derivation of the main principles and issues covered in the relevant textbook chapters, which is to better students’ understanding and will not be tested. Academic Integrity All students are expected to know, understand and live up to the standards of academic integrity explained at http://academicintegrity.rutgers.edu/integrity.shtml. The minimum penalty for any cheating in an exam is the immediate failure of the course. The minimum penalty for any plagiarism in an assignment is a zero point for the assignment. Policy on Electronic Devices in the Classroom Students are not allowed to use the computer or other electronic devices to chat, email or surf the internet in class. Violators will be politely asked to leave the classroom. Unauthorized use of the computer or other electronic devices during an exam will be considered cheating and will result in the immediate failure of the course. Required 1. Brealey, Myers, and Allen, 2017, Principles of Corporate Finance, 12th ed, McGraw-Hill-Irwin, ISBN 978-125-9144-387, or 1259357465. 2. A financial calculator is required. Make sure you can understand the manual. I recommend the Texas Instruments BA II Plus mode l.
