THE CASE OF TIMOTHY EVANS 20th NOVEMBER 1924 – 9th MARCH 1950
INTRODUCTION: - Timothy John Evans th - Born 20 November 1924

Evans was later exonerated and he was found to have not committedn the mudrers he was accused of.
Important things to remember: •
He was an alcoholic
•
He was illiterate (couldn’t read or write)
During the trial he maintained his innocence and told them the actual killer – they didn’t believe him or follow this up
About the trial:

•
Evans was charged for two murders
•
He was sentenced to death by hanging however the whole time he was in custody until his death he remained adament he was innocent
He was hung on the 9
th
march 1950
the realisation of innocence: •
Evans was discovered to be innocent in 1953

Christie was then caught for his crimes.
•
This made evans unfortunately another victim to the murders of 10 rillington place
Was his conviction quashed? •
in 2004 his case was called a ‘historic and unique injustice’ by a judge however was refused referral to the court of appeal
•
He was granted a royal pardon in October 1966.
As of now (69 years after trial) his family still do not have justice for Timothy.
conclusion •
overall this case was proof that no matter what if the accused in a case gives information it should be look into as if Christie was investigated this wrongful hanging wouldn't have occurred
•
His family received compensation however never received full justice for Evans...
