Critical Analysis on Hinilawod by F. Lando Jacno . 21st Century Literature (Subject on STEM senior High School)...

Description

Introduction The epic, "Hinilawod" by F. Lando Jacno is discovered "by accident" in 1955.This epic is fascinating as it tells the exploits of three Sulodnon demigod brothers Labaw Donggon, Humadapnon and Dumalapdap of ancient Panay. When the author F. Landa Jocano, then a young college student—now a renowned anthropologist—traveled the hinterlands of his home province in Iloilo, collecting folksongs, stories and riddles. It was during one of those trips to the market of Lambunao that he heard an old man, Ulang Udig, chanting to his grandson. The story he was chanting was the story of the tale called Hinilawod. The Hinilawod is not just a literary piece but also a source of information about culture, religion and rituals of the ancient people of Sulod; showing us that ancient Filipinos believed in the “sacred,” in the importance of family honor and in personal courage and dignity. The work is beautiful, it recounts the exploits of the three Sulodnon demigod brothers Labaw Donggon, Humadapnon and Dumalapdap of ancient times. They use their power or amulets just to get the woman they want to marry. They fight with those who also intend to take the hand of the woman they want. Summary This epic is about the story of the exploits of three Sulodnon demigod brothers, Labaw Donggon, Humadapnon and Dumalapdap of ancient Panay. The setting is in "Halawod" orally transmitted by early inhabitants in "Sulod a part of central Panay" where Datu Paubari the father of the three demigod brothers is the mighty ruler. The main characters are the demigod brothers: Labaw Donggon, Humadapnon and Dumalapdap of ancient Panay. The theme is importance of family honour and in personal courage and dignity. The author argues that when the three sons of Alunsina (goddess of the eastern sky) and Datu Paubari (the mighty ruler of Halawod) fight for their desired wife–the triplets struggles and adventures for their desired wives. The research was when the three demigod brothers left the house to take the hand of the woman they wanted to marry, then when they found their wives they were reunited, the three demigod brothers and their father Datu Paubari and mother Alunsina – after the celebration the three demigod brothers went to different parts of the world. The main points are that they are fighting to prove their will to a woman they want to marry and when the king of gods orders that Alusina should be married, it is shown that the virgin goddess should marry before life become peaceful for someone to succeed to their throne when they die and to expand their territory. The authors conclude that true and faithful love shall and always prevail, as happened to Alunsina and Datu Paubari when other gods wanted to harm them and their children who fought to get the hand of the person they wanted to marry. Analysis I like this epic when Datu Paubari and Alusina escape from those who want to hurt them because of her decision on who she will marry so her other suitors get angered. When there was a ceremony for triplets and when it was over the priest did something there at home and the triplets were transformed into strong, handsome young men, it symbolizes that the demigod brothers will not be harmed immediately. The last was when their family reunited again so their father Datu paubari prepared a feast in their honor. What I don’t like about this epic is when the other gods tried to win at the hand of Alunsina and when they didn’t win, they planned to ruin the newlyweds Datu Paubari and Goddess Alunsina. And, when Labaw Donggon was defeated by Saragnayan in a duel for the woman Malitong Yawa Sinagmaling Diwata, he gave up because he could not defeat Saragnayan because it's amulet was strong so Labaw Donggon was imprisoned by Saragnayan beneath his house. In this story the father of the triplets datu Paubari is the mighty leader of Halawod he is a mortal and their mother is goddess of the eastern sky Alunsina, the three brothers are demigod. The female goddesses have to get married when she reached maidenhood, as happened to Alunsina, the god of kings

ordered that she should marry, so all the unmarried gods tried to win her hand to be her husband. Through their amulets they become powerful, like Labaw Donggong he has amulets besides his skill so he is very strong, so is Saragnayan so he is also hard to defeated. In this epic also, they have to fight to prove their love for a woman as happened in the triplets, they fight to win the hand of the woman they want to marry. The author intended goal achieved, for me. The author delivered the epic clear. From the story that the Hinilawod is an epic poem from early inhabitant’s place that is called Sulodin central Panay, Philippines. The Title Hinilawod means “Tales from The Mouth of the Halawod River”. This epic is commonly known by the community of visayans of Panay since the name of the protagonist is noted in the accounts of the Islanders beliefs and recorded by early Spanishcolonizers. The story of this epic is mostly exploits of three sulodnon DemiGod brothers, Labaw Donggon, Humadapnon and Dumalaplap. I will say that this analysis is well researched from what I've read in social media and also in the epic it would take about three days to perform the epic in its original form. Thus, it is one of the longest epics in the world. The appropriate conclusions for Hinilawod or the Tales from The Mouth of the Halawod River that the truelove will remain forever and will prevail no matter what is hindered. The epic tells the story of a goddess who married a mortal and the adventures of her three demigod sons, from what I've read. Conclusion You should read this epic because the Hinilawod epic provides information about the cultures, religions and what were the rituals of the ancient people of Sulod; showing that the former Filipino believed in the sacred. You will learn not only a literary work here but also the importance of family honor, courage and dignity. The epic narrates the exploitation of three demigod brothers, as they fight for their will. They use their strength and courage when someone is also planning to take the hand of the person they want to marry....
