Essay about origin of your name...
Dos Reis Pamela Dos Reis Ana Hernandez SPC 1017 September 27, 2018 The Real Me After nine months of expecting a baby is born. A human being that will leave a mark on this planet. That newborn needs a name but cannot be any name, it needs to be a name that it will define that person’s personality. “A name, or identity, is a powerful thing. It is a descriptor that allows people to make quick judgments and assumptions about us” (Ladipo). When I was born, my parents named me Pamela Michelle Ramis Andrew. I asked them why they gave me that name. My dad said that he liked the name “Pamela” because is a very feminine and elegant name (Ramis) and my mother liked the name “Michelle” because of The Beatles' song “Michelle” (Andrew). I looked up the origin of my name and it came up that “Pamela” intended it to mean all sweetness from Greek pan "all" and meli "honey" (Campbell). “Michelle” is a girl's name of French origin meaning A gift from God and is often added to lists like: Names inspired by The Beatles (“Michelle”) ...A funny coincidence. My last name “Ramis” was first found in Castile, a region of north-central Spain (“Ramis History, Family Crest & Coats of Arms”). I knew that my heritage was from Spain since my grandfather was from that country and “Andrew”, my last name from my mother’s side, was first found in Caithness, a part of the northern tip of Scotland. That’s new for me because my grandfather’s family were Germans. I guess in some point they got mixed with Scottish people.
Dos Reis 2 While I was married to my ex-husband I adopted his last name Dos Reis, now that I am divorced, I reinstate my family last name, the one that I feel one hundred percent identified. I like that my parents named me Pamela, I don’t imagine myself with a different name. A more informal way to say my name is Pam or Pame. People that is closer to me call me this way and I feel them more confident. The image that I project of myself is the image of an approachable person. My hand shake is firm, and I usually look to the eye and smile when I meet someone for the first time, trying to make that person feel comfortable in some way. The clothes that I wear are casual. T-shirts, jeans, sweatpants or leggings, sneakers or sandals. I wear light make up. I take care of my hair. I don’t have a hair style, but I always try to look presentable. I feel myself with my name, it suits me well and the meaning of my name represents me in every aspect. The importance of naming a human is a big task to do, because that is how that person it will present itself to the world and the future that will face.
