Description

The Strange Situation: Assessing attachment types in early childhood The “Strange Situation” is a research condition developed by Mary Ainsworth in which children experience the departure and return of their attachment figure and encounter a stranger. Different attachment behaviours can be observed using this set up, including using attachment figure as a secure base and how the child reacts to separation and reunion.

As you watch the video, fill in the children’s behaviours you observe for the different attachment types in the table below. Then be prepared to discuss the questions that follow.
