Description

● Plot opens in the midst of a storm; a ship with the king of Naples aboard struggles to stay afloat. ● Prospero and his daughter, Miranda watch the storm the ship. ● Prospero created the storm with magic because his enemies were on the ship. ● Prospero is technically the Duke of Milan, however his brother Antonio seized the title. ● Prospero and Miranda were sent to sea on a raft and arrived on an island, in which Prospero gained the ability to control the island’s magic and everyone on it. ● Prospero rescued a sprite named Ariel who was imprisoned by the witch Sycorax. ● The only person left on the island is Caliban, the son of Sycorax. Prospero enslaved him and he only want to be free and live on the island alone. ● The people on the ship arrive on the island, but in three different groups. ● King's son, Ferdinand falls in love instantly with Miranda after being brought to Prospero. ● Alonso, the king of Naples, and others arrive on a different part of the island. ● Alonso thinks Ferdinand is dead and grieves for his son. ● Antonio washed ashore with Sebastian, the younger brother of the king. ● Antonio manages to convince Sebastian that he should murder his brother Alonso and take his position as king. ● Court jester and butler, Trinculo and Stefano meet Caliban and think he is the perfect way to to make money; they want to parade him around as a monster from a strange island. ● Trinculo, Stefano, and Caliban get drunk, and Caliban plans to murder Prospero, but Ariel foils his plot and tells Prospero. ● Prospero forbids Miranda and Ferdinand from seeing each other, yet they meet up secretly. This is part of Prospero’s plan, and he stages a masque to celebrate their newly found love. ● Prospero sends ghost and imaginary banquet to the king and his crew who have been searching for Ferdinand. A voice accuses the men of their sins and the banquet disappears. ● Caliban, Trinculo, and Stefano are punished with a run through a briar patch and swim in a disgustingpond. ● Prospero becomes the rightful Duke of Milan. Upon the spell being removed, Alonso apologizes for his mistakes. ● Prospero Ferdinand and Alonso pleased with the engagement of Ferdinand and Miranda. ● Prospero does not punish Antonio and Caliban, and the fates of Stefano and Trinculo are left in the hands of Alonso. ● Prospero reveals to the audience that he can only leave the island with everyone

else by the help of the audience’s applause....
