BUS1101 Discussion 1 The text defines management as “The art of getting things done through the efforts of other people.” Please consider the following for this week's discussion: Put yourself in the shoes of a manager and explain what this definition means in the context of a company operation. You can use the example of any company (large or small) and any good or service.
Operating an organization involves people with different skills and skills levels working in different departments and completing various functions. The number of people in any organization varies depending on the type of services, the volume of operations and the budget of any organization. In order to maintain some order and reporting structure, organizations organize their staffs by team under supervisors and/or managers by departments. These managers coordinate the work of their staffs to make sure that they have what they need to get the job done and that there are getting the job done. This makes the role of managers “required in all activities of organizations” (Bauer & Erdogan, 2010). As managers, they understand the company’s policies and expectations better. It makes it easier for them to supervise and guide staffs with regards to what needs to be done, how it needs to be done and when it is expected to be done.
