Description

The text defines personality as “a person’s relatively stable feelings, thoughts, and behavioral patterns” while values are “stable life goals, reflecting what is most important to them.” Pick one of the “Big Five Personality Traits” (see figure 2.5) that details the most important trait for your current job or a position you want to eventual be in. Describe why this is the most important. Give an example of how this personality trait aligns with one of your professional goals. Please answer in 150 words or more. The Big Five Personality Traits – O.C.E.A.N. – include Openness (OpenMindedness), Conscientiousness, Extroversion, Agreeableness, and Neuroticism. The Big Five dimensions of personality are described using an acronym OCEAN; openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and Neuroticism (Carpenter et. al. 2010). After taking ‘The Big Five test’ online, I found the highest score of my result was attributed to the trait called openness. I will further expand on why this personality trait is of the most importance to me as a Nurse. Carpenter et. al. states, ‘people high in openness seem to thrive in situations that require flexibility and learning new things (2010). I found the aspects of flexibility and open to acquiring new skills to be on the most crucial aspect of my professional role. I believe the ever-increasing knowledge in health care and research in best practises have always stimulated my curiosity. Carpenter et. al. mentions that the potential downside is becoming more easily bored or impatient with routine (2010). I acknowledge this drawback; therefore, I have kept on advancing my education in higher studies in the field.
