What is Tik Tok? As you stated Tik Tok is a social media platform. But it is not like Snapchat, Twitter, Instagram or Facebook. It is an app that allows you to post 15 to 60 second long videos. To explain what Tik Tok is one must know what the app looks like as well as what makes it so intriguing to many people. Attached is a screenshot of what it looks like when you open the app. When you first open the app you can see; home, discover, an + sign, your inbox and then your page. The discover page or the For You Page, fyp for abbreviation, is mainly how you are able to view thousands of people videos that they post. Just like every other social media platform Tik Tok has an algorithm. This algorithm is how people’s videos are able to make it on to the fyp. It involves the amount of likes, views and the amount of shares a particular video gets. The + sign is where you can upload or make the video. The next two things; inbox and then your page is where you can interact with who views your page, likes your videos or messages you on the app. Those are the main aspects of Tik Tok. The For You Page is the most intriguing aspect of the app. As this is where you can become famous. As stated before, in order to get on this page it involves how many views, likes, comments and shares you have. Also, since social media become a thing, many people have the aspiration to become famous. With this app, you are able to get that 15 seconds of fame that many people in today’s world crave. Also, with that, fame or becoming famous is the most people find intriguing about the app. That is the basics about Tik Tok and what is so intriguing about the app.

Another aspect that should be known about the attraction of this app is the level

of distraction it can cause. Personally, this app can quite literally suck you into a time warp, where you don’t realize how long it has been since you opened the app. Just like any other social media platform, teenagers are attracted to the idea of finding something that can distract them from everyday activities. So if you have ever wondered why my reflections were a few minutes late it was due to the fact that I may have been fully distracted by Tik Tok while writing the paper. That is another aspect about Tik Tok that adds to the attraction of it. To tie this into a CIT discussion topic, the For You Page is also like how in metaphysics you learn that space is never ending. The fyp is just like that in the sense that no matter how long you are on the app for, I have once been on it for 5 hours so personally I can attest to this, there is no end of it. Last class we talked about how in metaphysics explains that outer space, that we know of, is never ending which is just how the For You Page never seems to end. That is how somehow, some way Tik Tok relates to CIT.
