TOK VOCABULARY Premise – An assumption that something is true Paradigm - Mental construct by which we organise our reasoning and knowledge Paradigm Shift - a fundamental change in approach or underlying assumptions i.e. Creationism Evolution. There are still areas where evolution isn’t a well-known/believed truth Perception – Knowledge primarily through sensory experience + empirical evidence Language – How language determines our thinking or vice-versa Correspondence Theory – A proposition must correspond with a fact in reality and not because authority said so. Example: “The grass is green” – you can go out and check it. Coherence Theory – Measures coherence and consistency among statements within a system. A belief or statement is true if and only if it logically flows within other beliefs that together form a comprehensive interpretation of reality. Especially relevant in criminal investigation; we cannot go back in time, so we must piece together how they fit in with evidence. Example: “I was at the supermarket at noon” However there is video evidence proving otherwise, so my statement becomes invalid....
