Avoid Similar Sound, ex: apartment ; deparment, cent ;sense;sent;set 4. Draw conclusions about who, what, where, when. Ex: (who)home,quiz a teacher, (where) water,sand, suntan lotion beach. 5. Listen for who and what in passive/ active statement. Ex: she got a new checking account a new checking account was opened, (conversely) 6. Listen for who and what with multiple nouns. Ex:Mara replaced robert Mara took Robert'splace 7. Listen for Negative Expressions. Ex: didn't … slowly quickly. Negative expressions:not,n't, nobody, none, nothing, never, un-, in-, dis-. 8. Listen for Double Negative Expressions. Ex: isn't imposible = might. Ex: negative word with negative prefix, neither / not…either. 9. Listen for "Almost Negative" expressions. Ex: barely enough = paid… has no maney left. Ex: almost none(hardly, barely, scarcely, only), almost never(rarely, seldom). 10. Listen for negative with comparatives. Ex: no…more intelligent = the smartest. Ex: (no..more answer migth the most, -est), (negative -er answer might extremely, e,g) 11. Listen for expressions of Agreement. Ex: so do I = agree. Agreement with positive statement: so do I, Me too, I'll say, Isn't it/ aren't they, you can say that again. Negative one : neither do I, I don't either. 12. Listen for expressions of Uncertainty and Suggestion. Ex: uncertainly = ketidakpastian: isn't it (tag), as far as I know, as far as I can tell. Suggestion = saran/ usul: why not …?, Let's…, think…should… 13. Listen for Emphatic expressions of Surprise. Ex: then…he did get would not get.
