Industry vs. Inferiority o (6-12 yrs. old) 5. Step 5 (13-19) o Identify vs. identity  Diffusion (adolescence)  Differentiate self from parents  Questioning and exploring alternatives 6. Stage 6 20-40 o Intimacy vs isolation (young adulthood) o Commit to others o Competitive and cooperation o Alternatives: become isolated 7. Stage 7 41-69 o Generativity vs stagnation o Convey information/love to others o Establish next generation and guide next generation parenting teaching mentoring o Alternative: live is unexciting, stagnated 8. Stage 8 +60 o Integrity vs despair late adulthood o Wisdom is developed acceptance of the way we lived o alternative: unproductive and wasteful Control theory Ct refers to an individuals perception about controllability over an outcome Primary vs. secondary control Primary control o Ability to change external needs to fit the desires belief o Controls strategies developed in early age. Child and teenagers may exaggerate belief of controllability o Primary control direct effort and effectiveness Secondary Control  Adapt and accommodate goals and desires to fit existing situation rather than the environment  Predominates in later life.
