Description

Topic 6 DQ 1 View "Types of Distribution Channels." In your own words, describe types of distribution channels and provide an example of each. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each using real-world examples. In replies to peers, discuss whether you agree or disagree with the pros and cons they have identified and explain why.

A distribution channel is like a chain of businesses in which goods are passed until they reach the consumer. Wholesales and retailer are among the distribution Channel. There are three types of distribution channels. the third one is the product to consumer. It doesn’t have any in between business. This is the shortest distribution. The second is the product to retailer to consumer. This channel is longer than the first but shorter than the last. Then the last distribution channel is product to wholesale to retailer to consumer. I have a friend who makes and sells her own clothing online. She would be a good example of the first distribution channel. This is because she makes the clothes then it gets sold to the customer. There is no middleman in her business. The second channel makes me think of target where they have a few different brand names in clothing, in which they sell to target to sell to customer. So, target buys the clothing in then sells to customers. I honestly can’t really think of a third of channel. Maybe amazon because the buy product from the person who made it the they try to sell to the public. I am getting confused. Can target be the first channel because the buy from a company to sell at their store? DQ 2 Provide a real-world example of a wholesaler, a distributor, and a retailer. Discuss the differences among them. In replies to peers, discuss whether you agree or disagree with their discussion of what differentiates wholesalers, distributors and retailers and justify your ideas with specific reasons, facts, and examples.

Class, For my examples of a wholesaler, a distributor, and retailer I chose companies that where close buy to me. Costco for my wholesaler, arbor beverage company as my distributer and Kroger for my retailer. As I shop at these stores, I was able to better understand the difference between the three. Wholesalers buy product in bulk to get the cheapest price. Then they sell that product at a cheap price as well in order to quickly sell the product so they can buy different product and continue the cycle. I think Costco is a great example of this because they are known to have bulk items at a cheap price. Arbor beverage company is a company in which they beer and wine. This company sells to wholesalers and retailers. This is what makes it a disturbing company. Kroger is a smaller version of Walmart. Kroger is considered a retailer because it buys it product from

distributors and wholesalers. It buys the product in bulk and then sells it individually for a bit more. It was at first hard for me to understand.” One of the common confusions when doing channel sales or when doing a market analysis, is the difference between wholesalers, retailers and distributors. If you don’t understand the distribution hierarchy, then this confusion is common. ”( marketing91.) After doing this assignment I have a better understanding of what the difference are.
