TYPES OF SUPPORTING DETAILS Supporting details is a paragraph that contains statements, facts, specific examples, and others as a guidance in fulfill the understanding of the main idea. Supporting details clarify, explain, describe, expand and illustrate the main idea. 1. Example – something that you mention in order to show the type of thing that you are talking about and to help to explain what you mean (macmillan dictionary) The illustration (examples) paragraph is useful when we want to explain or clarify something, such as an object, a person, a concept, or a situation. When we illustrate, we show how something is as we point out. When we illustrate with examples, we give instances that show or prove to the readers so they can see for themselves how something is as we claim it to be. You will notice, then, that illustration paragraphs often answer questions that ask what, how, in what way—questions that need or ask for explanation, examples, cases, and details to illustrate how something is true. ‘like…’, ‘such as’, ‘which is….’, ‘for example’, ‘for instance’, ‘to illustrate’ The discrimination may be in terms of payment, benefits, gender, etc. that may affect the relationship between the employers and employees itself, this is because employers might think they have the power to control the workers and being cherry picking.
