Critical Thinking Questions

1. Why do you think it is so important to use proper methods when collecting evidence from a crime scene? It is so important to use proper methods when collecting evidence from a crime scene because it only takes one wrong move to be convicted of tampering with evidence or having your DNA found at the scene framing you as the suspect. 2. Why do you think forensic science has been increasingly used by the criminal justice system?

While looking for motives and physical evidence (such as stolen goods) worked for police officers in the past, with new technology being developed everyday, more crimes are able to be solved. The use of fingerprinting and blood/DNA samples offers a closer, more in depth idea of who might’ve been at or near the crime when it occurred. 3. Which of the forensic scientist’s responsibilities do you think would be the most challenging? Why? In my opinion, I think collecting evidence would be the hardest of the three responsibilities because once you have the first step out of the way you just have to provide testimony of your findings and continue to train others. Making sure that you are collecting correct, useful, and relevant evidence is key. If you aren’t collecting evidence that is useful within the investigation you are just wasting your time. 4. Which of the forensic scientist’s responsibilities do you think would be the most interesting to you? Why? While I said collecting and analyzing evidence seems the most challenging, I also think it would be the most interesting to me. To me, it seems like putting pieces of a puzzle together. Using critical thinking and being able to work with others to solve the case. 5. Which of the specialty areas do you think you would most like to work in? Why? I would like to work in forensic sociology. I really enjoy learning about why and how people interact with one another. Learn behavioral patterns and be able to assess the reasoning behind it....
