Information System What are the different types of information systems? Information systems are used by organizations to collect, process and distribute the information. These systems uses communication technology and information to make use of it. Information systems are designed according to the needs of the organizations. These are categorized into many types, each having different functionality and uses. ●

Transaction processing system: designed to technique habitual transactions correctly and accurately. An enterprise will have numerous TPS; for example: 1. Billing systems to send invoices to customers; 2. Systems to calculate the weekly and month-to-month payroll and tax payments; 3. Production and purchasing structures to calculate raw fabric requirements; 4. Stock manipulate systems to techniques all moves into, inside and out of the commercial enterprise.



Decision support system: specifically designed to help management make choices in situations where there is uncertainty about the results of those choices. DSS use equipment and techniques to assist accumulate relevant information and examine the options and alternatives. DSS often includes use of complex spreadsheets and databases to create “what-if” models.



Executive information system: designed to assist senior management to make strategic decisions. An ESS gathers, analyses and summarises the key internal and external information used inside the enterprise. ESS usually involve masses of records evaluation and modelling tools, such as “what-if” evaluation, to assist strategic decision-making. A good way to think about an ESS is to assume the senior control group in an aircraft cockpit, with the tool panel showing them the popularity of all the key commercial enterprise activities.



Management information system: is a computer machine which include hardware and software that serves as the backbone of an organization’s operations. A MIS gathers information from more than one on-line systems, analyzes the statistics, and reports data to resource in control decision-making.



Enterprise resource planning: enterprise resource planning is the incorporated control of main commercial enterprise processes, frequently in real-time and mediated by using software and technology. ERS is usually referred to as a category of business management software-typically a suite of incorporated applications- that a business enterprise can use to collect, store, manage, and interpret facts from many enterprise activities. Expert systems: is a computer machine that emulates the decision-making ability of a human expert. Expert systems are designed to solve complicated troubles by means



of reasoning through our bodies of knowledge, represented particularly as if-then rules instead of through traditional procedural code....
