Overview This is the second workplace integrated learning unit in a series of six clinical midwifery practice units. In this unit students build on the clinical experience and competencies developed in the first practicum. In this unit, the focus is the Continuity of Midwifery model of maternity care. Students will be prepared for their exposure to Continuity of Midwifery practice settings through an intensive series of lectures and clinical skills workshops. A range of external Edith Cowan University acknowledges and respects the Nyoongar people, who are the traditional custodians of the land upon which its campuses stand, and its programs operate. In particular ECU pays respect to the Elders past and present and embrace their culture, wisdom and knowledge.

These include assessment of antenatal, intrapartum and postpartum women, and newborns. Clinical reasoning skills with a focus on woman-centred health assessment, management, education and promotion are also developed in this unit. Assume management of 15-30% of the Registered Midwife Workload appropriate to the setting. Demonstrate competence relevant to a Stage 3 learner scope of practice in undertaking comprehensive woman-centred antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum and neonatal physical assessments relevant to midwifery practice in the health care setting and consistent with national and international standards. You will be required to successfully complete your clinical practicum and have undertaken 20 hours of Continuity of Care Experience (CoCE) as evidenced in your Eportfolio. The eAMSAT is to be submitted no later than 5 days following the completion of your midwifery practicum. Midwifery Medication calculations with a 100% result is to be uploaded to the below Turnitin portal by 5pm on 12th March 2021 - Students are to complete Med+Safe Customised Assessment (Midwifery) #14 A reflection from your clinical placement using Gibbs reflective cycle and linked to the NMBA Midwife Standards for Practice (2018) to be submitted no more than 5 days post midwifery clinical placement

Instructions All students will undertake two OSCE's, the skills to be assessed will be selected from the following midwifery practices:  

conducting an examination of the newborn Mechanisms of labour

All students will be timed, with the time limit being 15minutes, students are to demonstrate and verbalise two clinical skills from the list above, no documentation is required but the process is to be verbalised. Students are to wear full midwifery uniform and arrive at the midwifery rooms 15minutes prior to their allocated time slot, if a student is not present at their allocated time he/she will be assessed at a later time. The timetable will be published after the release of the university exam timetable.

As this is an exam, you must have student ID or drivers licence. Each student has two attempts, if the student does not achieve 50% in attempt one, he/she will be re-assessed at the end of the completion of all students OSCE's by a different assessor on the same day. If the student does not achieve 50% in attempt two he/she will be referred to the unit co-ordinator. If you are unable to attend your OSCE due to ill health or an exam clash please notify the unit co-ordinator immediately, deferred OSCE's will be managed in the universities deferred exam period. Please note documentation will be required to support your claim and submitted to the unit co-ordinator. Please note the achievement of 50% is necessary in order to pass the unit, if you are unsuccessful you will receive a fail grade.
