Visual sequence analysis Indiana jones! this was an easy A!...

Description

In Indiana Jones ‘The Raiders of the Lost Ark’, The movie starts off with a very action filled scene. Indiana is searching for something. The visual storytelling to this first sequence is based upon a journey, or in better words, a search. As Indiana’s group comes farther along in their journey, it seems that most of the company starts a camp. Indi takes two other men with him to go a little bit farther. The videographer seems to cut back and forth between Indiana and the two men as if there's some sort of plot that the two men are planning. Sure enough as Indiana stops at a waterfall and pulls out some sort of map, One of the two men pulls a gun on Indiana. Lucky, Indiana hears the revolver's hammer being pulled back and pulls out his whip to snag the gun out of the man's hand, and the man reatreats. Up until this point there has been no form of communication or verbal context. In the next part of this scene Indiana looks to his right and walks up a steep slope up to what seems to be a cave. Now this is where things get interesting, Indiana only has one more wingman with him as he approaches the cave, and for some reason he fills up a little bag with sand. When I first watched this movie I was about seven years old, and I thought that the sand would probably be used for triggering booby traps or something, however the sand serves a greater meaning than I ever expected. Indiana exchanges dialogue with his other wingman as he grabs a torch from his backpack before entering the cave. The next scene cuts to Indiana and his wingman walking into the cave. The first ‘trap’ would be the spears comes out once indianas hand touches the light. I’m not sure how this trap worked considering that it would have to be a certain time of day that that light would be able to shine in to trigger the trap if anyone was to walk through it. Normally in video games and in other movies levels gets harder progressively every level, but not so much in this movie. As opposed to the first trap, the second obstacle seems to be a fairly easy casm swing that many people could probably jump. Honestly for me personally I would’ve liked to see some dart or arrow that stuck into indians leg or maybe a large swarm of bats rush in as indianas movement is detected by some sort trap to add some tension and suspense to the scene. The next scene we can see the golden Idol, which seems to be the prized possession that Indiana is looking for. As Indians face comes into the light, we see the camera zoom in on him, and then to the Golden Idol as if they are apart of eachothers destiny. However there is a small corridor between them that Indiana has to make it through before he can take hold of the idol. Indiana analyzes the corridor carefully noticing that there is a mud spot on the ground. Indiana grabs a tree branch and presses the mud spot slowly triggering a arrow coming out of the wall that sticks straight into the tree branch. Indiana realized that this corridor will probably hard to navigate. The first shot of Indiana walking through the corridor starts with a camera angle that is looking straight at his feet. We can see from the camera angle that he is slowly looking and analyzing each and every step he makes so that he won’t trigger some sort of trap. Finally Indiana makes it to the golden Idol. This is where the unexpected happens. Indian slowly reaches into his satchel and pulls out the bag of sand that he had filled at the beginning of the cave, and quickly swaps it for the golden Idol hoping that the bag of sand will equal the amount of weight that the idol held sitting there. Unfortunately the place the idol sat did not accept the bag of sands weight and the cave starts collapsing. Indiana and his wingman are forced to run out of the cave hoping that they wont be killed by any trap along the way. As Indiana runs, he is narrowly missed by the arrows that he sets off in his path. Indiana and his wingman make it to the casm and the wingman makes it across first using the whip, Indiana throws him the idol and the wingman takes off without Indiana and without giving him back his whip. Indiana is left with no choice but to jump.

He jumps and makes it onto the side where he is able to climb up. Once indiana gets back on his feet he walks around the next bend only to see that his wingman has been scuered like a shish Kebob by one of the traps. Indiana sees the Idol lying on the ground, picks it up, and starts running. The next trap that Indiana triggered isnt a very good one, A large rock stone exactly the size of the cave starts rolling down toward him at rapid pace. After Indiana runs for awhile he finally makes it out of the cave with a diving finish. I think the directors intensions for this scene are to display intensity, observation, betrayal, and danger....
