Benign valval disease Aka chronic inflammatory skin condition, that presents with severe purititis especially at night. Signs: Typical area is labia majora (inflamed and thickened with hypo/hyper pigmentation) Can be related to stress/low iron levels Investigations: valval biopsy if in doubt Treatment: avoid irritants, steroids/antihistamine topical cream given A common disease affecting skin anywhere in the body most commonly mucosal surfaces (moth & genitals) Causes: unknown Signs: flat, popular purplish lesions, painful & itchy Treatment: high dose steroid cream Valvular epithelium is thin with loss of collagen Causes: autoimmune basis & thyroid disease Signs: typical patient is premenopausal women, affected with severe purititis at night, may cause bleeding and skin splitting, pain, dyspareunia. Appearance of white/pink papules could be seen. Inflammation of fusion of labia. This is important as it can develop into valvular carcinoma Treatment: topical steroids cream
Could be - Provoked - Spontaneous – burning pain common in older women - Valvular dysesthesia of the vestibule – pain using tampons, superficial pain after sex -> more common in younger women Associated with factors such as: genital tract infection, oral contraception Treatment: oral drugs such as gabapentin or amitriptyline Common infections: Herpes simplex, valval warts (condyloata acuminate), syphilis, candidacies (more common in obese, diabetics, pregnancy women) Treatment: prolonged antifungal therapy for candidacies...
