Week 1: Egypt Egypt 2700-1100 BC ● Silhouette-Tubular: straight up and down silhouette ○ Pectoral: wide necklace, made of stone ○ Shendot or shenti: loincloth, worn by men, a skirt when worn by women ○ Sheath: very slim dress ○ Girdle: tie around waist ○ Hieroglyphics: pictures and writings on the walls. ● Nomadic people until they found the nile. Built huge pyramids. Polycystic society for their religion, they worshipped many gods. ○ Pyramids protected from grave robbers ● Kalarsis: a draped gown made of linen, sheer and very fine. Often shaved their heads due to weather, they made lifted wigs of human hair for air flow ○ Kohl: eye makeup ■ They wore sandals or went barefoot ● Headwear: Klaft: large head piece worn by men, made of gold ○ Pschent: very large, tall, and wide headpiece that is tall and pointed

Modern Adaptation: Similar to the kalarsis, it is fitted at the waist and tied or uses a girdle ○ Has similar drape, long in areas and see through, similar in the showing off of the body Modern fashion garments are more fitted and have more decorative trim, on the right it has more construction with its many gathered folds
