Description

In Chapter 1 of the text, goal setting is discussed. Select a personal or professional goal you want to achieve. Address each part of the SMART technique -- specific, measurable, aggressive, realistic, and time-bound– providing relevant details about the goal for each component of the goal-setting process. Be sure that your Learning Journal entry is a minimum of 500 words.

Specific: I want to create a set of 3d models - a village where the main character can walk and interact with simple objects. All villagers should have an idle animation and be able to greet the player as soon as he approaches them. Measurable: this set of 3d models should include: a landscape with grass, rocks, bushes and a couple of trees; 5 houses and benches nearby; 10 NPC (with idle animation); the main character (with idle, walking and jumping animations); 1 treasure chest; collectible objects (coins). All these objects should be assembled into an application that can be launched on any modern computer with a Windows operating system. Aggressive/attainable: to be able to use this set of assets in the future I need to create it in Blender as soon as Maya's license is too expensive. There are several good educational channels on YouTube teaching how to use this software and it is easy to find tutorials. I already took a brief introductory course of Blender and can use my skills as well as tutorials to achieve my goal. I have also completed 3d modeling courses on Coursera.com and even though I gained the skills of working in Maya (Autodesk), the functions of this software are not that much different from Blender and it is easy to switch from one to another.

Relevant: if I want to continue working in game dev in the future, I need this project for working experience. Now it is the best chance to work on this project because there is a developer who is ready to write a code to assemble this project into an interactive application and I can choose myself what I want it to be and how it will look like. Time-Bound: three months from now. Even though there are not so many assets I need to create, I have many other things to do at the same time and cannot concentrate on this project only. It is my personal goal, I will not get paid for it, and I need to work and study as well. I should also keep in mind that at the beginning it will take much more time to create each 3d model as soon as I am not very experienced and I am still learning this new software (Blender). The developer I am working with is also busy with his full-time job and I depend on his time, too. Considering this, 3 months will be enough for this small project. SMART goal: over the next three months, I will create a set of 3d models for a simple game scene where the main character (with the full set of animations) can walk around and interact with different objects and 10 NPC (non-player characters, with idle animation). To do so, I will learn more about Blender (free open-source software for 3d modeling), practice on working in it, watch tutorials and create all the assets I need so that the developer I deal with will be able to assemble our project into a playable scene....
