W11 Get Thinking Response: Supernatural Lydia Walburger Subculture: The Chickasaw Nation- a Native American tribe/people that now dwell mainly in the Midwestern portion of the United States. Supernatural Beings: - “He that lives in the clear sky.” or Aba ꞌ Binniꞌliꞌ - the overall supreme being that controls the other “Beloved Things”. - the clouds - the sun - the clear sky - holy fire Thoughts: The Chickasaw people believe that these various natural elements have supernatural roots and implications. When there is a thunderstorm, they believe there is a war among the holy people that dwell above. They often respond with gunfire and shouts to show the holy people they are willing to fight and die to aid them. They have strict rules about how a fire is to be put out as to not disrespect or pollute the holy fire and its power. These couple examples explain the deep respect the Chickasaw people have for the earth and all that it provides for them. They are careful with the resources and how they are handled to show respect and remember that they are not owners of the land but receivers of a gift. By believing that each element has a spirit, power, and purpose they approach many otherwise ordinary occurrences with more purpose and thought....
