2 Dispositions to Create a Successful Learning Experience

Dispositions are the values, beliefs and attitudes in a professional environment that educators use through verbal and non-verbal behaviors. I believe that all of the dispositions of education are important and critical when teaching. The Model Code of Ethics for Educators ensures teachers follow written guidelines to ensure they provide an equal and professional learning environment for their students. Needing certain skills and attributes are important to have in the classroom as well to be an effective teacher. Successful teachers need to have and follow these dispositions religiously.

Professional Dispositions of Learners are important in educational settings because this ensures that the students are learning what they need in a welcoming and diverse classroom. This teaches and ensure educators are following certain guidelines to treat all students fairly and equally. Educators are challenged but encouraged to have high expectations, be respectful, honest, compassionate, be dedicated, advocate for their students, and promote curiosity. An example that I have experienced was at a daycare I interned at. My mentor made sure that all students were receiving equal opportunities during tasks and showed compassion to students without helicoptering over them.

The Model Code of Ethics for Educators being practiced in the classroom has been practiced since I was in school since I can remember. My teachers always showed profession and was never too involved with their students. They showed responsibility to the profession, students, school community, and responsible way to use technology. They never used school

3 time or the school’s technology for personal use as far as I was aware. I have seen a few educators use YouTube videos for educational purposes, such as documentaries.

A few skills, traits, and attributes I have seen being demonstrated by effective teachers from my past educational experience are professionalism, responsibility, compassion, and trustworthy. I noticed that when teachers share a little from their life, students are usually more open to sharing and asking questions or raising concerns. I believe I need to develop and work on how to show my students that I am trustworthy and how to show compassion to become an effective teacher. Giving out the right amount of compassion is important, so you aren’t babying the child nor ignoring their feelings. Also, being an adult that they can trust will be important, so the children know I can help them in any way possible.

Successful teachers are always aiming to improve and work on themselves personally and professionally. This helps them create a welcoming environment at all times as things are always changing. The way we teach, what we teach and how we teach. There is always room for improvement on the skills we have since learning techniques are always changing so often. Exercising this dispositions are critical for educators to know and practice to create an effective learning environment.
