Description

Reflection Topic: College Success Success is defined as having achieved and or accomplished an objective or aim. Being successful defines achieving one’s set goals or desires. It can also be associated to a certain social status; that of a prosperous person who could have gained fame or wealth. I would simply define success as achieving your set goals or plans while maintain your integrity and peace. To me, college success is not only understanding topics taught during my classes and attaining my bachelor’s degree but maintaining passing grades; mainly A’s and B’s. However, in order to attain such a goal, I must strategize and form a solid plan. First, I must create a proper study schedule in which I allocate adequate time for my different courses. This is a vital step on my journey to achieving my goals because this is how I retain all of the information I learn throughout my courses. If I am unable to stick to my study schedule, I would form a study group with my peers in order to remain on track. When studying in a group, all members have an equal chance to ask questions and discuss different topics in which they face challenges. I can also use the university’s Learning Resource Centre to find additional learning material to help with my studies and class assignments. Furthermore, I can also find a tutor in the peer assessment office to provide further help with challenging topics when I am unable to contact my professors. The tutor can also be introduced to my study group so my peers can also get a fair amount of assistance. Another strategy, is to practice taking effective notes in my classes. My notes have to be clear and concise. All important points have to be highlighted or written in a different colour ink. Also, I could use diagrams or information bubbles to reinforce key points if they are referenced on more than one occasion throughout the class. Part of my note taking will also be practicing past paper exercises and self quizzes to help myself prepare for exams. Another important strategy, is reviewing my notes and other study material prior to

attending my classes. This will allow me to have some insight on whatever topic may be discussed throughout my lessons as well as asking any questions about the points I am unsure about. My only concern is about the late submission of assignments. Primarily since I am currently working while being a student. I work in the medical laboratory at a national clinic and my shift hours are not fixed and vary based on the day or night. I worry that I would have an assignment due on the same day I am on duty. Despite that I am pretty much impressed with the structure of the university and I am very impressed with the facilities they have put in place to aid their students throughout the courses.

In-text Citation: More than half of all adolescents are sexually experienced well before the end of their second decade, leading to such serious consequences as unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, and acquired immunodeficiency disease (AIDS/HIV). Yet we, as a nation, have not given a high priority to the primary prevention of these outcomes among sexually active youth in terms of either health education or health care itself. Public policy too often has swept teen pregnancy under the rug until

after conception has occurred or has limited preventive concerns to seeking universal teen abstinence—an unrealistic goal at best. (Jamner, Schneider, M. 2001, p. 541)....
