In the poem, “What Shall He Tell That Son” by Carl Sandburg, there are several advices that the father gives to his son. Firstly, the father wants the son to “be steel” (3) and strong because there are some life events that he has to face by himself, and he has to be tough enough to suffer through all the “humdrum and monotony” (5). Also, the father wants his son not to be greedy for money, because “too much money [will] kill [him]” (16), it’s good enough if he has enough money to buy his necessities. Besides, one advice is telling him to be independent, and not to influence easily by the others, because “all the final decision are made” (32) alone. Lastly, the father wants the son to recognize his potential, because everybody has their own strength, just like “Shakespeare, Wright brothers, Pasteur, Pavlov [and] Michael Faraday.” (38-40)...
