“Why Is Everyone Obsessed with Dating Someone Tall?” by Sable Yong, published in GQ in 2019, reveals the hidden biases we may have against someone based just on their physical appearance. The article is directed to people that are attracted to men. Yong states that men and women made an assumption that height is the sole feature in mating with men. Mostly throughout the article, Yong’s tone appears to be personal due to the author’s experiences and own opinions. Nonetheless, Yong supports the fact that height requirement should not be the main factor in choosing a partner. The author believed that good personality and behaviour, as well as a sense of humour, play a vital role in attracting others. According to the author of the article, tall guys have numerous advantages. Yong opens the first section of the article by stating that if a heterosexual adult woman has learnt anything in this period of 21st-century wooing, it is that a man's height takes precedence over most other desirable physical traits. Nowadays many apps include a built-in option to list your stature, and some even allow users to refine their height preferences for a price. Yong discovered that if a man is under six feet tall, he rarely discusses it. The author emphasizes dating tall men delivers a more romantic and intimate experience. A person's size influences how they move through the world, how much space they take up, and, more crucially, how they are viewed by others. Yong seems to be depicting tall guys as having greater privilege than shorter men on purpose. There are few types of supporting detail that the author uses in bringing the issue. In the second paragraph, Yong mentions that she discovers a reference to height in a guy's profile 99% of the time and if a man's height is less than six feet, he rarely mentions it. The author's referenced statical measurements are inconclusive due to a lack of information and erroneous data provided by nominees. The statement is based on author’s experience “I am 5’2”— The tallest heels I wear bring me to a fairly modest 5’5”. Most of the men I’ve dated have measured between 5’5” and 6’0” in which she herself enjoys dating tall men. “Being tall pays, according to the American Psychology Association, to the tune of nearly 1,000 additional dollars a year, especially when coupled with being fit” is weak due to no reliable statistical data to support the statement. Her argument is closely tied to the inquiries she asked her friends about if they were experiencing something similar. This demonstrates that the textual supports are relevant. In some ways, she is not biased, which makes her comments valid. Her claim is impartial, according to the facts she gathered from her friends and the American Psychology Association. However, the author's reasoning is inconsistent, as she continues to describe how the height criterion for dating is excessive and provides her personal ideas. She believes that not all women have "You must be this tall to ride," and she is referring to those whose passionate

gazes tend to wander heavenward and evaluate the exciting possibility of a companion whose qualities can only originate from experiences gained while standing below see- level. Despite stating her opinions, the author has not provided evidence from credible sources to back up her claims. In this sense, the information provided is insufficient and thus invalid. Yong uses both inductive and deductive reasoning in the text. For example, she uses inductive reasoning to explain how she enjoyed being a small spoon but had to deal with literal limitations such as a lack of reach. She discusses how a person's size affects how they move in the environment, how they take up space, and how they are perceived in relation to others. Her inductive logic is also clear to back up the belief that being tall pays roughly $1,000 more per year, especially when combined with being fit, as supported by the American Psychology Association. As a result, her reasoning is credible. Yong, on the other hand, stated that she will not unpack the romanticises of dating someone tall, but she wants people to understand that dating someone tall does not guarantee happiness in a relationship. In conclusion, the author's reasoning is inconsistent, as she changes her viewpoint at the end of the text. The author's early assumptions have proven that the author does not agree with the statement dating requires a certain height. When it comes to relationships, Yong believes that all those inches are excessive and unsustainable. Being tall, according to the author, is not a positive personality feature. (822 words)...
