2 Leadership Ethics Ethics in leadership relates to the respect for moral values, beliefs, and other people's dignity. Leaders play a critical role in influencing an organization's ethical values and the employees' conduct (Ciulla, 2020). Beyond possessing desirable values, leaders must demonstrate morality in their actions and relations with other stakeholders. The foundation of ethical leadership lies in accountability, fairness, trust, honesty, respect, and equality. Ciulla (2020) explained that leadership and values are mutually reinforcing factors in that ethical leaders are successful, and successful leaders behave virtuously. Ethics in leadership is crucial to develop motivated, respectful, and highperforming subordinates. Ethics in leadership is also critical to an organization's long-term success and sustainability. Per social exchange and social learning principles, ethical leaders inspire followers to behave appropriately through effective communication, decision-making, reinforcement, and interpersonal relationships (Ahmad et al., 2017). As followers imitate leaders' conduct and behavior, ethical leadership results in normatively moral conduct among the followers. Ethical leadership comprises two aspects, moral manager and moral person. A moral person refers to a leader's possession of attributes like integrity, honesty, truthfulness, openness to alternative perspectives, and concern for others. The moral manager facet concerns leaders' use of authority to encourage ethical behaviors and standards in the organization. Leadership theories affirm the significance of ethics and morality among leaders. The transformational theory of leadership includes the influential component of leadership, also called charisma (Skubinn, 2019). According to the theory, leaders act as role models by inspiring admiration among followers and the desire to identify with the leader. Transformation leadership

3 grows followers into higher levels of moral development by demonstrating adherence to virtues like equality and justice. Contrarily, unethical leaders influence followers to behave unethically, negatively affecting the organization's output. Ethical leadership influences a positive organizational climate and favorable employees' attitudes towards the workplace. Employees' confidence, enthusiasm, and optimism depend on leaders' moral conduct (Sharma et al., 2019). Ethics drive leadership effectiveness, fostering job satisfaction, engagement, and stakeholders' positive attitudes towards the organization. Unethical leaders undermine stakeholders' values, discourage employees, and destroy the organizational reputation. Leaders' respect for values affects an organization's ability to achieve its vision and safeguard sustainability in the industry. Conclusion Ethics in leadership is crucial to develop motivated, respectful, and high-performing subordinates. Ethics in leadership is also critical to an organization's long-term success and sustainability.
