Description

Ethics paper outline ine that you are a 26 yr woman who is 10 weeks pregnant. The father of your fetus has fled the scene, and most likely will not help you raise the child. You have just started your promising law career, and you wonder whether aborting the fetus would be morally right or wrong. You seek an answer from a moral theory. Between Utilitarianism, Kantianism, Ethical Egoism, and the Divine Command Theory, which two of these theories do you feel would be the most promising candidates? (Note: You do not need to discuss all four theories; just explore the two you choose.) How would each of these two theories approach your moral dilemma, and what moral verdict would each provide? Finally, which (between these two) do you choose as the correct approach, and why?

Ethical egoism VS. Kantianism o My self interest (Outcome a priori & prediction problem) contrast  What if everyone did that (Hypothetical) contrast  Kantianism is important so commons isn’t destroyed but if you absolutely have an exception you can abort with EE or not. o Kantianism specificity objection Choose Ethical Egoism o If she chooses to keeps it under her own self-interest the baby will most likely be happier vs. if you used Kantianism and were unhappy about the baby.  She has the positive or negative choice of keeping child vs positive and negative of aborting child (Moral Luck)  Truth (Genuine self-sacrifice is wrong) o Moral Bias towards self (My welfare is more important than the baby’s because I am me & you aren’t me)  What if you don’t know what’s best for yourself Conclude Ethical egoism>Kantianism for abortion...
