The United States annexes Hawaii in 1900. The United States declines to give aid to Hungarian patriots in 1849. The United States proposes the Open Door Policy in 1899. The United States annexes Samoa in 1899. The United States attempts to mediate in the Venezuela-Great Britain dispute in 1895.

Isolationism “The United States declines to give aid to Hungarian patriots in 1849” Isolation is when a state or country tries to not get involved with all od the different political affairs. When the United States declined to give aid to Hungarian patriots in 1849 it was a form isolation. The United States wanted to be secluded and stop functioning with other countries rather than help Hungarians with their fight for independence in 1849. They helped when the leaders of Hungary were in jail, but other than that they would not help. They helped when the leaders of Hungary were in jail, but other than that they would not help.

Intervention The United States proposes the Open-Door Policy in 1899. Intervention is the involvement of foreign powers in another nation. The United States proposes the Open-Door Policy in 1899 would be categorized as Intervention. This policy allowed all nations to trade freely in China. China became weaken after Japan attacked them and the European powers took advantage of that. Europe had the upper hand in trading with China. The U.S worried they would not get equal access to trade in China anymore, so they proposed the Open-Door Policy. The United States wanted the Open-Door Policy to put into place so that all nations could trade freely in China. The European governments were very much against this policy, however after certain event they changed their mind, and the policy was put in place.

Imperialism The United States annexes Hawaii in 1900.

When the United States annexes Hawaii in 1900 it was categorized as imperialism. Hawaii was a major producer of sugar, especially for the United States, so it would be beneficial for the United States to annex Hawaii in order to obtain raw materials, such as sugar, in Hawaii. An 1875 treaty allowed Hawaiian sugar to be imported to the United States without tariffs. In 1887, the United States pressured the Hawaii to allow the United States to establish a naval base at Pearl Harbor. The agreement ended when Congress passed the McKinley Tariff of 1890. because they were not granted permission to establish a naval base. Congress revoked Hawaii's special privilege, which made Hawaii face an economic depression....
