Description

Part 2 – Creative Activity – Concept Mapping – Stellar Evolution Map a make to tell the story of a star’s life. Concept Map 1 – Standard Design 1. Watch this video on Concept Mapping, “How to Make a Concept Map”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XGQGhli0I0 (8:30) Note: you can use whatever software you choose to make your concept map

2. Using a

8x11.5’ sheet of letter paper, create a concept map with the following items:  Shapes:  Rectangles (or ovals)  Arrows  Text  Identify the Main Concept: STARS  Identify the Main Focus Question: What is the life cycle of a star? Here are the items for the ‘Parking Lot’(20 total):  Supernova  Red Giant  Red Dwarf  Sun-like star  Planetary Nebula  Earth  White dwarf  Brown dwarf  Protostar & protoplanetary disc  Giant molecular cloud  Massive star  Black hole  Cosmic rays  Local bubble  Herbig-haro object  - (add your own)  - (add your own)

 - (add your own)  Use verbs on top of the connecting arrows to show the relationships  Include some cross links whenever possible.

Concept Map 2 – Astronomical Images Make a copy of the concept map you created for the previous part. On this version you are going to replace over all the concepts in the Rectangles (or ovals) with images that are examples of this concept. Below are some images that you can use, but feel free to use textbook images, or images found on the web. Use actual astronomical images (unless there are none, then use artistic representation, etc.)

Sites to get additional images: 

Astronomy Picture of the Day, https://apod.nasa.gov/apod/astropix.html, scroll down to the bottom and use ‘Search’

NASA Image Archieve: https://www.nasa.gov/content/nasa-imagesarchive/#.XvNlIS2ZOjQ

Or just the regular ‘google search’, or wikipedia, or textbook. (The problem with a google search is copyright.)
