2/27/18 TS111 Three Basic Weaves 1. Plain weave 2. Twill 3. Satin Weaving: Interlacing of yarns done on a loom/ one set of yarn running lengthwise (warp yarns or ends) / one set goes width (filling yarns) Reversibility: A plain weave/ reversible/ the face and the back are the same/ the fabric itself regardless of the print *Faille: A special weave/ warp yarns are thinner than the pics/ we recognize this because the fabric itself is going to be bumpy *Basket Weave: More than one end on a filling/ can be 3X3 or 4X4 or so on/ Specialty plain weave TWILL *Twill: Has fewer interlacing than the plain weave/ higher number of interlacing/ going to see a twill line/ there  is a right hand twill and a left hand twill/ the name always comes from the direction it is going toward/ 45 degree angle most of the time/ no longer reversible/ one side it goes one way and the other side goes the other way/ the most famous twill is denim/ more compact hand/ more yarns per inch/ be stronger than plain weave/ more durable *Broken Twill: the twill line will go one way than the other way constantly/ not reversible Satin *Floats: Satin Weave/ if it is using continuous filament fibers there will be more luster - Fewer warp yarns + Strongest of the three basic weaves (There is a difference between satin and sateen because sateen has less luster) Sateen: It is woven/ the fiber content is cotton/ that is why it is dull First brought to the country through medieval europe...
