1. “Me talk pretty one day” context is the author illustrating several obstacles he faced after moving to France for the educational opportunity to learn the language and other cultural aspects of the country. He shares his thoughts of how returning to school at a much older age made him feel out of place. He gives a first-hand account of events that occur while having to learn from an almost unbearable instructor teaching the class. The author's purpose of this story is to entertain his audience with the humor and sarcasm he found in his struggles during this time. The style of this writing is casual and informal from the first-person point of view. The tone the author uses is humorous and light. What I have learned from this early analysis is to try and find the lighter side of every negative situation.

2. By analyzing the author’s claim and structure of the writing more closely, I will gain a better understanding of the reasoning behind this particular writing. I will learn more about how the author expects his audience to experience this story. Analyzing the structure of the writing will help me identify the style, diction, and tone in which the story is being written. This will help me understand the

author’s intended interpretation of his story, and also help me process and retain the information from the reading.

3. Yes, I think the author’s writing is very effective in achieving the purpose of the story he is telling. A reader can identify the style and tone of the author’s writing immediately. His word and sentence structure are very casual and easy to read. He illustrates the comical aspect of his experience, even though a negative one, for people so they may too, find the funny... in the not so funny....
