Placing pronouns, adding accents General rule: pronouns go before a conjugated verb. Order: I.o.p/d.o.p/verb. All are separate words: Lo digo (I say it) Te lo prometo (I promise you it)
Optional rule: infinitives and present participles if you have an infinitive or a present participle (-ando, -iendo) pronouns may go before the conjugated verb OR after the infinitive/present participle. If you want to put the pronouns after the infinitive or present participle, attach them to the verb. It's al one word. Notice that the indirect object pronoun still goes before the direct object pronoun: Lo estoy arreglando (I am fixing it) OR Estoy arreglándolo Te lo estoy ofreciendo OR Estoy ofreciéndotelo. Lo puedo arreglar OR Puedo arreglarlo Te lo voy a ofrecer OR Voy a ofrecértelo.
Obligatory rule: commands Pronouns always go before a negative command: No lo coma (don't eat it). No me lo diga (don't tell me it).
Pronouns always go after an affirmative command. Attach to verb, add accents: Cómalo (eat it) Dígamelo (tell me it).
Accent placement If you attach any pronouns to an affirmative command or a present participle, you must add an accent mark. This goes on the 2nd to the last syllable, ignoring pronouns: Estoy arreglándolo
Estoy ofreciéndotelo
Dígamelo Cómalo
If you attach just one pronoun to an infinitive, don't add an accent mark. If you attach two, put the pronoun on the last syllable, ignoring pronouns: Puedo arreglarlo Voy a ofrecértelo...
