4-1 Discussion Romyr DelRosario

Class Hardware and OS compatibility are a tricky thing in the IT world. Software manufacturers place minimum spec requirements for their product as a guideline doesn’t mean that’s what you shoot for. Those min requirements are just that the bare minimum. If you just settle for the bare minimum expect the performance levels of your OS and software to run at the bare minimum. I would always shoot for as much hardware you are allowed by your budget constraints. I would always prepare for double and even triple the amount of hardware that is listed in the minimum requirements because I want the OS/software running at optimal levels. You also are less likely to run into hardware issues due to overheating since you are not placing as much stress on the hardware when running programs. Less/minimum hardware means your computer is working harder than it should which means it more wear and tear on the equipment. Exceeding the hardware requirements means your computer is running much more efficiently and a lot cooler. As far as troubleshooting hardware issues is much easier than software issues. Hardware problems can be solved by removing and replacing specific parts until the problem ceases to be an issue. Now as time goes on and the technician gets more experience these hardware issues become easier to solve since you can narrow down the problem in minutes due to past experiences. Software troubleshooting is a little more complicated since you’re dealing with different layers. You must be aware of any data that might be important to the user and the risks associated with what you are doing. Backing up any important data is key you don’t want to inform your customer or employee all their hard work is lost. Once you’ve secured any data that might be important you can go about troubleshooting the issue. Ask questions like when did this start happening and what did you do before it started having issues. These are key questions that will help you understand what happened the time the issues started appearing. It could be a hardware driver was installed or updated that caused their problem. Even the simplest thing such as doing a restart can solve a lot of software or hardware issues in a computer.
