Discussion on NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION...

Description

NATIONAL RIFLE ASSOCIATION The National Rifle Association is the oldest civil right group in America that protects gun owners right and their second Amendment. It was created on November 17 th, 1871 in York, NY by union veterans Col. William c. Church and Gen. George Wingate. It was founded to encourage shooting scientifically, it had shooting programs and has been the home for great marksmanship. In 1934, NRA formed the legislative Affairs Division to inform its members about the second Amendment and their rights to bear arms but it never directly lobbied for legislative issues. However, to defend it’s members right to bear arms the NRA decided to get involved politically to make sure the second Amendment is protected and members rights are not violated. MISSION STATEMENT The NRA’s mission is ensure that the terms and condition of the United states Constitution is upheld and applied to all and sundry with regards to the right of a citizen of the United States to protect themselves with a gun, the NRA ensures that the right to own and use a firearm is not infringed. NRA SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE The NRA’s social media twitter page creates a strong social media presence; it encourages the use of arms as an important means of protection. The advantage of their social media site is that it educates the masses on their rights to own and carry weapons, but a disadvantage would be the fact that the NRA’S social media handles keeps propagating the idea that the government is trying to take away American citizen’s right to own and carry guns. The federal government is only trying to create safer rules and regulation to protect everyone, NRA is constantly agitating for more free regulations. Using the recent court case where a federal Judge granted an injunction in the NRA supported lawsuit, Rhode v Becerra, which challenged

California’s ammunition ban. The NRA should give a more critical view to enable it’s supporters see the pros and cons. NRA FINANCIAL STATUS ON OPEN SECRETS The NRA’s cash inflow for 2020 is $331,189 which is mainly contribute by it’s members. These cash contributions are used to fund and support politicians, political parties, PACs leadership, communications and independent expenditures. A large sum of $233,183 from its funding is used to support the Republican Party and its candidates. The NRA spend a rough estimate of $3,470 on communication, the NRA should look into increase its communication expenditure and put more into educating its members on safe gun practices, this will reduce the amount of gun violence or children accidental discharge. BEST WAY TO IMPROVE THE NRA The NRA favors only one political party and its candidates which it clearly shows by its one sided support and funding for the Republican party, this hinders its goal to defend and protect the constitution of the United States of America. To broaden its scope and ensure that they have a voice at all times, it would be best for the NRA to also support the other political party albeit they are not as radical as the Republicans but it would ensure that the NRA’s concerns are voiced at all times.
